Michelle and I were interviewed a few months ago on the Married to Doctors podcast. We had a blast chatting with podcast host Lara McElderry about our training and career journeys in the context of having spouses who also have challenging and demanding professional obligations.
You can listen to the interview or check out the show notes here:
The audience for this podcast is mostly other physician spouses. These spouses often struggle with maintaining their own career and professional identity while supporting their spouses' medical journey.
Sometimes, this means moving to different parts of the country with relatively little notice. Very commonly, it also means juggling home, family, and work responsibilities alone, as the partner has very little time and energy outside of medicine.
In the interview, we tackle several questions such as:
- We're not sure yet where in the country we might move in a few months, so how do I search for a job?
- If we're only going to live somewhere temporarily, should I mention this during an interview?
- What are some practical tips for managing a family, a home, and two busy careers?
- What can you do to build your network in a professional and not creepy way?
- How about some advice for keeping your marriage strong?
