Last week, at the NIH Career Symposium, I was a panelist in a session on global public health careers. Public health is getting a lot of attention now, especially among scientists who desire tangible impact. The other panelists worked in government public health agencies, and I was the only panelist in the pharmaceutical industry. Here, I share my notes from preparing for the session and some thoughts after the discussion with attendees.

This week, I had the pleasure to be interviewed on The Public Health Millennial podcast. I spoke with podcast host Omari Richins, MPH, about my path to public health and pharma. In the episode, I reflected on how receiving public health services as a child motivated me to pursue a career in public health. And then how the skills I gained in epidemiology led to my first job after training. We also talked about my current work in the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology industry.

Having learned about my biomedical science background and transition to epidemiology, the director of the program asked me to share my career path with the students.

Oftentimes, students rarely get a glimpse of what happens in industry, so I really relished the opportunity to share how public health skills could be put to work in pharma.
