Not too long ago, I was looking for podcasts on career development in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Of course, bonus points if the podcast has a focus on women. So far, I haven’t come across any in this particular niche (hey, Michelle, project idea… you know, for when our kids finally go to school after this pandemic!). Dear readers, if you know about a women-in-pharma-careers-relevant podcast, please leave in the comments below or send us a note!

I am often amazed at the insensitive comments people sometimes direct to moms. They don’t realize that there are things you should try not to say to moms, especially to working moms.

Just as my son turned 5 months old, I returned to work. Immediately, I began to feel overwhelmed with the burden of running a household, caring for an infant, and showing up alert and coherent at work. I simply needed more time to get everything done and then sleep!

Everyone else around me seemed to be gracefully handling multiple children and working full-time in successful careers. Some new moms were even getting promotions at work soon after returning from maternity leave. I was still languishing in survival mode.

Women's work around the household like washing dirty dishes or cleaning the kitchen gets to have monetary value when outsourced.
Household work often takes up valuable time.

Editorial Note: Path Forward recently contacted me about several returnship opportunities at a pharmaceutical company. These opportunities reminded me of the article that Michelle shared on our Facebook page about a program helping people in STEM fields return to work after a career break. Therefore, I invited Path Forward to share a guest post. Here, they highlight the mission of the organization and describe currently open positions. Please share this with your network.

Path Forward is a non-profit that helps women who are pharma professionals return to work after a career break.
